DESCRIPTION
One of the most popular Twitter apps for iOS, Windows, and Mac, Echofon, finally releases Alpha version of its Android app. For an alpha, I have to say it works really well, except for a few gripes I have about the design and UI elements.

For starters, the ad placement at the top of the stream is horribly misplaced and extremely annoying (I am assuming there will be a paid version without ad when they finally release). Second thing is probably the thing that will annoy a lot of long-time Android users, i.e. the position of navigation bar being at the bottom. That is almost a deal-breaker for me. I can’t stress enough how much I hate apps whose UI are directly ported versions from iOS without being specifically designed for Android. Despite that, it’s rather easy to switch among different tabs by just swiping left and right, which makes things slightly better.

Aside from the aforementioned points, I don’t have any other particular gripes about how the app looks and works, which is very well for an alpha version. Currently there aren’t many customization options for advanced users just yet; the ones present are pretty standard stuff. I will keep an eye on its gradual improvements leading up to its release, but I can boldly say that the first impression did very little or nothing to sway my interest away from Tweetcaster and UberSocial, which I am using currently.

Your user experience and mine might well be very different, so try it out yourself to see what I’m talking about. Don’t expect anything extraordinary or feature-packed; this is only an alpha!
